Surgery 4 Pets

2013

Hello, my name is Dr. Scott Gustafson.  I am a board-certified veterinary surgeon.  Veterinary surgeons are Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Surgery.  Diplomate status requires completion of a DVM (doctor of veterinary medicine), an internship (one year or more study in advanced medicine and surgery), a surgical residency (an intensive 3 year program teaching surgery), publication of peer-reviewed articles, and passing a highly selective board certification exam.  I have been a board-certified surgeon since 1990, and have a broad perspective from private, corporate, and university practice.  This web site is dedicated to helping people get the information they need to get the best care for their pets.

Our furry family members deserve the best care we can deliver.  Fortunately, there are many choices for the health care of our pets.  There are increasing numbers of options in veterinary orthopedics, soft tissue surgery, surgical oncology, neurosurgery, reconstructive surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.  One new option is stem cell therapy, or regenerative medicine.  I have performed regenerative medicine using adult adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell therapy in dogs for 6 years.

My primary interests are Minimally Invasive Surgery, Orthopedics, and Oncology.  This website will include case examples, including the aftercare recommendations for those patients.  Procedures can be complex and each patient and procedure has particular aftercare requirements.  Specific recommendations require a veterinarian to have a doctor-client-patient relationship and exam.  That relationship cannot be virtual - it must be real!

I sincerely hope my site provides a useful resource for you.
